JFG has a nice selection of pietersite - perfect for one-of-kind statement creations as each stone is unique!
Discovered in 1962 in Namibia and named for the man who discovered it, this variety of chalcedony (which is a member of the quartz family) with its swirling colors, is a pseudomorph of quartz with embedded fibers of amphibole minerals in varying degrees of alteration. These fibers cause a chatoyancy similar to that seen in tigereye.
Combining shades of blue-gray, yellow and brown in fantastical churning patterns gives pietersite its sobriquet "tempest" stone. Pietersite is also known as "eagle's eye".
Affordable and available in substantial sizes, this eye-catching stone deserves a second glance! Contact us for more info and available stones.
