Named for its resemblance to the tranquil hue of the sea, aquamarine is a variety of the mineral species beryl. Aquamarine is most often light in tone with high clarity and is readily available in large sizes. Deeper blue stones are rarer and thus more valuable. Designated as the birthstone for March and the 19th wedding anniversary, Aquamarine also symbolizes hope and fidelity. Mined in Brazil, Nigeria, Zambia and Madagascar.
